Engagement

That morning, Sanvi woke up at 7:00 AM and was walking here and there, very worried. Her mother came to her and said, “Being worried won’t change anything. Go and get ready quickly. Today is your engagement, and no excuses will work. And remember, don’t try to do anything today.”

Sanvi heard this and went to take a bath. After she came back, her sister started getting her ready, and her friends came from behind saying, “We also came to help get Sanvi ready.” They joined her sister Kanika in helping her get ready.

Meanwhile, Vihaan went to the bathroom to bathe. After some time, he came out and quickly took out his sherwani, wore it, and then started fixing his hair in front of the mirror.

Just then, there was a knock on the door. When Vihaan opened it, his mother was there. She said, “Wear this around your neck. In our family, the groom wears this chain.” She took his evil eye protection, put a black mark behind his ear, and said, “May no evil eye fall on my son’s happiness and his life.” Vihaan became very happy hearing that. His mother said, “Look at him today, my son looks so happy.” Then Vihaan’s sister came and said, “What’s the matter, brother? Your eyes are shining so much today.”

Vihaan felt shy, and his mother scolded his sister, so his sister quietly left the room.

Sanvi finished getting ready too. She was looking extremely beautiful in a blue lehenga. Blue bangles, white sandals, payal on her feet, and a blue necklace around her neck. Her long open hair falling down to her waist made her beauty glow even more. Sanvi looked at herself once in the mirror and then turned away.

Maanvi asked, “What happened?” Sanvi replied, “I think they didn’t read that letter.” Nora asked, “Which letter?” Sanvi didn’t say anything and went to her parents. Her parents looked at her, did her evil eye protection, and said, “May no evil eye fall on you, you look very beautiful today.” Her father’s eyes became moist and he said, “Look, our little daughter has grown up so much, today is her engagement.”

After that, they all sat in the car and went toward the hotel.

Meanwhile, Vihaan also took out his car. Everyone sat inside and went toward the hotel too. After a while, Vihaan’s car stopped in front of the hotel. He looked and saw Sanvi getting out of another car. Vihaan kept looking at her. His mother said, “Son, don’t stare too much, she’ll get the evil eye. Now she is going to be my daughter-in-law.” Vihaan then lowered his eyes.

Vihaan’s mother told his sister to take Vihaan inside. Then Vihaan’s mother went to Sanvi, did her evil eye protection, and said, “You look very beautiful, child.” Sanvi took her blessings, then took Vihaan’s father’s blessings, and then everyone went inside together.

Maanvi whispered to Sanvi, “He is wearing a blue coat and pant today, and he’s looking so handsome.” Nora said, “Yes, look at her, she is getting such a handsome guy and still she’s standing here with a straight face.”

Sanvi got angry and scolded both of them. Then her sister Kanika came and said, “I saw brother-in-law, he is looking so handsome.” Sanvi scolded her too and said, “Don’t give him evil eye.” Kanika went to their mom and said, “Mom, look, didi is already acting possessive about jiju and not letting anyone praise him.” Their mom scolded Kanika and told her to stop.

Everyone went upstairs in the lift.

The decoration around was beautiful. Lots of flowers everywhere, pretty decorated tables, pink and white floral arrangements. Everyone admired how nice it looked. There was a big stage, a DJ beside it, and many varieties of food arranged. Soon, guests started coming. They welcomed them. Then the priest came and sat Sanvi and Vihaan together to begin the engagement rituals.

Kanika brought the ring first and gave it to Vihaan. Sanvi hesitated to take her ring, so her mother said something to her. Then Sanvi took the ring and placed it on Vihaan’s finger. Vihaan’s heart started beating fast. His heart spoke loudly that today, he is getting his first and true love. Thinking this made Vihaan very happy.

Then Vihaan’s mother said, “Son, now you put the ring on Sanvi.” Vihaan took out the diamond ring he brought for her, which was very beautiful, and placed it on her finger.

Everyone clapped loudly and showered flowers on them. Both of them sat on the stage, and everyone came to meet and take pictures with them. Then Maanvi, Kanika, Nora, and Leena went to dance on the stage to make the atmosphere even more fun. After that, they held Vihaan and Sanvi’s hands and brought both of them to dance too.

Sanvi lowered her gaze and stood still. Vihaan asked gently, “May I dance with you?” Sanvi said yes. Both of them started doing a slow couple dance to the music.

Then everyone had dinner. Vihaan’s mom said, “Son, you feed Sanvi with your hands. And daughter, you feed Vihaan with your hands.” They fed each other, which gave Vihaan a deep feeling of peace.

After that, they took some close pictures together. Then everyone came downstairs, got into their cars, and returned to their homes.
